I have been very fortunate to have lived and worked in different parts of the world for many years – 12 years in Cameroon, 5 years in Malawi and in between in Germany, where I worked in development cooperation for a Catholic organization. During this time, I learned a lot, especially about people, cultures and the challenges that many have to face. These experiences have shaped me a lot – both in my view of the world and in my way of taking pictures. Certainly, my time as a carpenter in Cameroon also plays a role in how I perceive light, forms and structures today.
At the moment I am in Paris taking part in the Magnum Photos & Spéos Creative Documentary Programme. It is a wonderful opportunity to develop in an international context, to refine my photographic skills and to engage even more intensively with documentary photography. I aim to tell stories with my pictures – close to the people, honestly and with an open mind for what is happening around me.
What does the future hold? I plan to work as a creative documentary photographer and use my pictures to help make people and their stories visible. I want to document projects and realities of life – whether it's for reportages, editorial articles or visual project documentation. I am aware that it requires empathy to be allowed to photograph other people, and I approach this task with respect and care.
